Mariola Cantarero is somewhat strained as Elvira, the Puritan woman who goes mad when her royalist lover, Arturo powerfully sung by John Osborn , apparently jilts her in order to free the captured Queen Enrichetta Fredrika Brillembourg, the strongest of the supporting cast.
