Sometimes you have to eat dead people to stay alive seriously, like the first 10 minutes of the story has them eating a dead guy they found. Every adult except for your parents is a giant creep who wants to marry your pre-teen sisters. Basically, living during Ever Winter would be a hard pass from me.

Of course all of these points, even the cons, are what make this book so compelling. And, gosh, was I rooting for Henry. He was dealt a pretty terrible hand. All I wanted was for him to get revenge on the King and his lackeys and make them pay.

Only one of them really bugged me enough to make the story lose a star. Given the world Henry was living in, it made sense. But it put a damper on the whole story for me, and is why I only gave the book 4 stars. TW 2: Child death- Not violent or graphic, but sad.]
